Giuseppe Nuvolone (1619–1703), Cupid
The present painting depicts Cupid half-lying on the beach in the act of placing his hand on his bow, with the intent of shooting two lovers on the seashore portrayed in the lower left. At Palazzo Pitti, in Florence, there is a similar picture inventoried as a work by Guido Reni (1575-1642). It is probably a copy of a lost painting by Reni. However, the painting is also very close to the style of Giuseppe Nuvolone (1609-1702). Oil on canvas, 72 x 93,5 cm
